Words Matter

Words are extremely powerful tools that can build people up, or can completely break them down. Using the words dysfunctional, weak, asymmetrical, unstable, and many others, is extremely counterproductive. In fact, these words are dangerous as they can absolutely make people feel broken, frustrated, and hopeless.

During my 5+ year struggle after my car accident, I was told these words on many occasions, and this nearly destroyed me, both mentally and physically. I was made to feel so broken and fragile that I was scared to do anything, and I was so inside of my own head. This stunted the growth in all parts of my life. I am extremely grateful to be in a much better place now. I’m a completely different person, and really like the person I’ve become.

As coaches, our job is to empower our clients and to build them up, not break them down. We must be extremely mindful of the words we use, and how we deliver them. Words matter.
